What God is Always Communicating

Psalm 19:1-2
“The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.”
(New King James Version)

The invisible God.  It is what Paul calls Him in Colossians 1:15.  That’s the hard thing about knowing God.  You can’t see Him, hear Him, nor touch Him.  Is He really far away and silent?  Not really.  He is actually communicating all the time.

In the above reference in the Psalms we are told that the whole universe, even the heavenly bodies speak about the existence of God and His glory.  Just what does the natural world tell us about God?

He is powerful and intelligent beyond our comprehension.  Paul wrote in Romans 1:20 that God’s eternal power is seen in the things that are made.  Regarding the origin of the universe, it is a constant, complicated, and often furious debate in our culture.  We may be making it harder than it should be.  Our experiences teach us that order, beauty, and function occurs only out of planning and arrangement.  Whether it is building a house, cooking a meal, planting a garden, or manufacturing a car there is intelligence, energy, and design in all functional things.  Would the universe be any different?  This orderly universe cries out that there is a powerful Maker behind it all.

He is considerate of human needs and shows us kindness.  Paul told the people of Lystra that God did not leave Himself without witness but, “…gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness” (Acts 14:17).  In the probing and searching of outer space, scientists are looking for conditions right for sustaining life.  What does it say that this planet is so right for human life?  Oxygen, water, plants, and animals that sustain our lives are in abundance.  God is concerned with us and is a good provider, this much is certain when we look at the natural world.

Two simple truths but truths that are foundational – there is an all-powerful God and He cares about us.  What a difference this can make in our lives?  Who does not struggle with isolationism, self-worth, and confusion?  All these struggles are best handled when we see that there is a compass for our lives that is pointing true north, to God.  How can we be so sure?  The sun, the moon, the sky, the birds, the fish, the trees, the wheat fields, and the rain remind us day and night.
